What a useful Style line needs to communicate
Treat a Style line as a compact arrangement brief. Genre supplies the musical grammar; the remaining words identify the lead instrument, rhythmic motion, vocal position, and production space. Each example is specific enough to revise. Copy one, listen for its strongest trait, then change the part that missed.
Instrument role
Name what an instrument does: a harpsichord repeats a counterline, a saxophone carries the lead, or a synth pad holds the background.
Vocal behavior
Describe delivery instead of status: close and breathy, group-chant response, clipped spoken phrases, or a wide melodic chorus.
Production space
Use words a listener can test: dry drums, narrow verses, a wider chorus, long cathedral reverb, tape grain, or a compressed low end.
Turn an example into your own tested prompt
A copied prompt is a baseline, not a finished answer. Treat each revision as a controlled listening test: define one audible target, change one instruction, and compare matched generations before deciding whether the wording helped.
Change the rhythm without losing the vocal
The baseline already has the right vocal tone and production space. The problem is specific: the chorus feels too static. The revision changes only the drum instruction, so the listening result has a clear cause.

Keep the revision only if the pulse becomes more active while the vocal remains clear and the chorus does not feel crowded.
Start from the nearest baseline
Choose the example that already matches the main genre and arrangement. Copy the exact line and note the lyrics, model, Exclude text, and generation settings you used. Without a recorded baseline, later comparisons depend on memory instead of evidence.
Write one audible target
Replace vague goals such as "more professional" with something you can hear: a drier snare, a less crowded verse, a closer vocal, a wider chorus, or a bass part that moves between vocal phrases. One target keeps the test interpretable.
Revise one control
Change the smallest phrase that can affect the target. Use the Style reference to find vocabulary, assemble a focused version in the Prompt Builder, and remove repeated or competing terms with the Style string cleaner.
Compare like with like
Keep the lyrics and other controls stable, then compare the same number of outputs from the baseline and revision. Do not judge one lucky generation against one weak generation. The prompt testing guide explains how to isolate variables and record observations.
Save the wording and the evidence
Keep the exact prompt that worked, the audible reason it won, and any condition where it failed. If an unwanted trait survives several revisions, move that trait into a focused Exclude list. Save reusable winners in Suno Prompt Manager instead of rewriting them from memory.
Rhythm
Check pulse, swing, syncopation, drum density, and whether the groove changes between sections.
Instrument role
Listen for what each named instrument does, not only whether it appears somewhere in the track.
Production
Judge width, dryness, reverb length, saturation, low-end weight, and contrast between verse and chorus.
